Bringing STEM to Life Through Plastics Manufacturing
Thank you, Elk Valley Elementary School (EVES), for inviting members of our team to present on plastics manufacturing and its connection to your students’ STEM coursework. Tom Moyak captivated the entire 4thgrade class with a presentation on how STEM is used daily at Matrix to design and manufacture products. He highlighted Matrix’s patented golf tee, developed 25+ years ago, and showed the students videos of the actual manufacturing process, providing an immersive experience as if they were on the tooling or molding floor.
Tom explored career paths in plastics manufacturing and emphasized the importance of STEM skills, showcasing the wide variety of exciting roles available in the field. The students actively participated in a Q&A session, examined production parts on display, and handled raw plastic resin pellets, which was a crowd favorite.
“We’re grateful to EVES for inviting us to inspire the next generation of innovators,” said Tom Moyak. “Our goal was to show the importance of their STEM coursework and its relevance to our daily lives and careers here at Matrix. We were extremely impressed by the engagement and insightful questions from the students.”
Matrix is a proud supporter of STEM education and looks forward to continuing our partnership with EVES, Girard School District, and the United Way. Students also received their own pack of Matrix tees to enjoy this summer!
